August 21, 2009 – Dr. Deke

Everyone loves to laugh at the guy with cake all over his face, right? There is nothing more embarrassing for an NHL goalie than letting a puck by you that has no business getting by you. The ‘mental mistakes’ as they call them, can cost your team dearly. Now that these are in the past, maybe its time we all have a good laugh at them. Check out the Top 10 Biggest NHL Goalie Bloopers:

I’m glad there are only 2 Flyers references in there. Ron Hextall, as good as he was, let in HORRIBLE, long-range slapshot goals that could fill in the entire top ten.

It is hard enough to see the puck on SDTV, but on youtube you have no clue what is happening.

I can’t even tell that the puck went into the net.

Nr. 10 isn’t a goalie blooper, but rather a defenceman blooper.
Nr’s 8 and 3 aren’t actually bloopers. Such shots are the most difficult to take, because when the puck jumps around on the ice you NEVER know where it will deflect, now it goes right, after the next deflection it might jump left. The reason why they don’t score lots of these goals is because it’s damn hard to hit the net with such shot. Try for yourself. it’s not hard to hit the net with direct shot, but if you shoot the puck so that it jumps off the ice a couple of times it will most probably jump aside from the net.

I adore Patty and his “showoff” thing, when he lifts the glove with the puck after a great save. In Nr 5 here it ended up with total disgrace for him :) well, showing off leads to such stuff every once in a while :)
