@Mr Boom,
After the incident with Clint Malarchuk the goalie masks were redesigned and they added the plastic cover for the neck that you can see on closeup pictures (transparent plastic thing that hangs on the mask in the chest area) it was designed to protect the neck of the goalie from skate injuries
