Cam Janssen runs over Carey Price
I’m a St.Louis native, so naturally, I’m a Blues fan. Let me also admit that I’m not a fan of Cam Janssen. There’s this notion within the NHL that enforcers are a necessary part of a winning team – but when I look at the Blues roster, I see other guys who can hold their own in a scrap like Backes, Crombeen, and Barrett Jackman. Personally, I’d rather see his roster spot taken up by a player who could actually produce some offense, but I understand it’s a business, and players like Cam sell a ton of jerseys, so whatever.
Anyway, here’s the hit everyone has been talking about:
Puck Daddy covers the debate about the hit pretty well, and I am fairly apathetic either way. I don’t really buy Janssen’s story that he was trying to ‘jump’ over Price – he’s an enforcer, and he’s paid to stir up trouble. I’m not sold on the accident angle.
That being said, I was totally shocked when I saw the hit. I thought it was hilarious – I think my facebook status really tells the story best.

Anyway, what do you think? Was Janssen headhunting or not?

Here’s my 2 cents.
It’s a clean hit because Price should have known better.
He’s charging a puck that’s on the boards, and Janssen is obviously going full speed to it.
I also don’t think it’s a dirty hit, because it does look like Janssen tries jumping to lessen the blow a bit.
A guy like Janssen knows how to hit, if he wanted to actually level price i doubt he would have left his feet, he probably would have just planted a shoulder into him.
I think Price should have been given a roughing penalty too as after the hit he tries pulling Janssen to continue fighting.

Clean. He was racing for the puck and knew he was gonna hit the goalie. He tried to get out of the way by using the boards because he knew some ref was gonna give him a double-minor or a major for the goalies indescretion of leaving the crease.
Yes I still own my Tony Twist Jersey. Twister wouldnt have jumped.

Wait…you’re not a Cam Janssen fan. I’m a Devils fan and one of the worst days of my life was when they traded Cam Janssen. I love him (not in a weird way or anything). If you don’t like him, give him back to the Devils, we’d be glad to have him back.
As for the hit, that jump was clearly an attempt to get out of the way of a retarded goalie who had no business being out there, if you’re that far up the boards, you’re fair game. You’re just asking to get wrecked, and that hit could have been much worse if he actually tried to nail him. Price got off lucky, then tried to fight him. He should have let the players get him, then he should have fought Conklin who was itching for a fight.

Please, take Janssen back. He’s virtually useless in our lineup. (32 GP, 0g, 0a, -4)
Backes, Jackman, Winchester, and Crombeen can all fight if it’s necessary – I’d rather fill up Cam’s spot with someone who could score.

Ummm, Price hit Janssen. Clearly.

See, this could open up another debate about the goaltenders leaving the crease. Now that you’ve put in the trapezoid behind the net, what the heck is the crease there for? The crease rule went by the wayside years ago and rightfully so. So when you as a goalie leaves the crease, you’re fair game, in my opinion.

Price had no business being out there with an opposing player that close.
