Jaroslav Halak’s Goal Line Save

St. Louis Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak keeps the Canucks from scoring, even while relaxing on the goal line. The Vancouver Canucks get a shot in on Halak, who has fallen down in a sitting position, and somehow the goal does not go in. Even after review you can see the close call.
The replay shows Halak is able to get a glove on the puck as it’s tumbling into the goal and he gets it just in time before it crosses the red line.
Video: Crosby, Ovechkin, and Roenick Appear on The Price Is Right

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Capitals counterpart Alex Ovechkin appeared together on CBS’s “The Price Is Right” on Monday December 20, 2010 to promote the upcoming 2011 NHL Winter Classic. Former Blackhawk Jeremy Roenick also was on hand. The trio introduced an NHL themed showcase that included a trip to Pittsburgh for the outdoor extravaganza New Year’s Day at Heinz Field 2011.
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby helped Roenick introduce a NHL-centric showcase that will include a trip to Pittsburgh to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins play against the Washington Capitals at the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day; VIP passes to the NHL’s New Year’s Eve Party in Pittsburgh; field/ice-level access during the Capitals and Penguins team practices at Heinz Field on Friday, Dec. 31; and a new 2011 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid car.
Canucks Green Men Throw Waffles For Leaf Players

I honestly can’t think of a group of fans I love more than the Vancouver Canucks Green Men. Maybe it’s because I’m a huge “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fan. These guys are always good for a few laughs as they poke fun at opposing players in the sin bin.
Last week they got me laughing hard when the Toronto Maple Leafs were in town. That’s because they were going crazy with a bag of Eggo Waffles as Leaf players sat in the penalty box. If you haven’t been following the Leafs waffle troubles you can catch up here.
Also in the game you can see the Green Men offering Draft Picks for sale as well as pulling out their Santa Caps and Beards and going over their Naughty List. The guys brought their A-Game that night.
Christmas Jerseys Your Grandma Would Love

The AHL’s Hershey Bears wore unsightly holiday-themed jerseys that were auctioned for charity after the game. At first thought I was wondering that they must not care for charities that much to offer up such an odd jersey. The Bears wore wore a Christmas-themed sweater for their game against Charlotte which would make any Grandma proud.
After the game John Keeley talks with Nikita Kashirsky following the Hersey Bear’s win over Charlotte on Ugly Christmas Sweater Night.
23,096 Teddy Bears Thrown On Ice During Hockey Game

The Teddy Bear Toss is an annual event in Calgary, Alberta, that supplies needy children with Christmas gifts. There’s really not much that can compare to 23,096 teddy bears being thrown by fans onto the ice. It’s like an avalanche of fuzz.
For 16 years the Hitmen, who were co-owned by and named after former WWF champion Bret Hart, have held a Teddy Bear Toss to benefit over 50 charities in Alberta that work with children. On Monday, after the 23,000-strong toss, the players hand-delivered teddy bears to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Thrashers Mascot Arrested On Zamboni Chase Through Atlanta

The Atlanta Thrashers are having a good season but the fans have no idea. The team only averages around 11,000 fans per game despite a solid 17-11-3 record. That ranks only 28th in the NHL. With that in mind the team hosted a ‘viral’ event to gather fans for upcoming games.
Thrash, the team mascot, was seen a stolen Zamboni during a police chase in rush-hour traffic. Media outlets and Twitter feeds went crazy with the event. Some even took the news a bit too seriously.
Thrash was arrested but will be released from custody as soon as 5,000 additional tickets are sold for the remaining five home games in December. I’m all up for a good ‘viral’ marketing campaign but may I just suggest the most obvious thing would be to lower ticket prices. When you start talking about $42-75 for a single, decent ticket it can get a bit pricey to take the family to a game.
C’mon Down! Sidney Crosby, Ovechkin, Roenick to Appear on ‘The Price is Right’

The NHL Winter Classic is just a few weeks away and the NHL is beginning to heavily promote its heavily watched outdoor event. Not only is there huge news that “Super” Mario Lemieux will return to the ice and the HBO four-part series documenting the preparation of the event, but now word comes out that the CBS show “The Price Is Right” will feature Winter Classic stars Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin.
Meanwhile, two players who will play prominent roles in that game and its never-ending hype, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, are set to join a star from the past on the longest-running game show around.
The pair will appear on Monday’s (December 20th) episode of “The Price is Right” on CBS, along with former NHL great Jeremy Roenick. We’ll keep an eye out for some interesting footage of Ovechkin trying to pronounce the prizes. His previous experience is kinda sketchy.
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and former NHLer Jeremy Roenick are guests on the Monday, Dec. 20 edition of THE PRICE IS RIGHT (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network. The trio will introduce an NHL-themed showcase that includes a trip to Pittsburgh for the highly anticipated 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, played outdoors at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day.
Host Drew Carey, Roenick, Crosby and Ovechkin will unveil the showcase that features tickets to watch the Penguins play against the Capitals in the historic outdoor game; VIP passes to the NHL’s New Year’s Eve Bash; field/ice-level access during the Capitals and Penguins team practices at Heinz Field on Friday, Dec. 31; and a brand new 2011 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid car.

Jordon Tootoo Runs Over Frolik [video]

Jordin Tootoo of the Nashville Predators lays a huge hit on Michael Frolik midway through the first period. Frolik is rushing along the boards and has no clue that Tootoo is coming his way.
This is a clean check into the boards by Tootoo and helps bring to life the age-old saying “Keep your head on a swivel.”
Markus Näslund Retirement Ceremony

The Vancouver Canucks raised #19 to the rafters in a classy retirement to former captain Markus Näslund on Saturday night. Markus Näslund joins Stan Smyl and Trevor Linden as the only players retired for the Canucks.
Markus Näslund was a great leaderand role model as well all-time leading scorer for the Canucks. His dedication ceremony clearly showcased his talents off the ice as well as his influence off the ice.
John Shorthouse hosted the ceremony attended by Näslund and his family, friends, former teammates and Canucks management, and a sold-out crowd prior to puck drop in Vancouver’s game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Näslund was a five-time All-Star while with the Canucks and in 2003 won the Ted Lindsay Award (formerly known as the Lester B. Pearson Award) which is awarded to the NHL’s most outstanding player in the regular season as judged by players.
Check out the ceremony video below.
Around And Around They Go!

Jay Harrison vs B.J. Crombeen in the craziest NHL fight I’ve seen in awhile. Mainly because it looks like the two are trying out for pair figure skating event the way the spin around and around. The fight might have lasted longer if they had taken some Dramamine. From the Carolina Hurricanes at St. Louis Blues game on Dec 11, 2010.
