Gone! NHL suspends Islanders’ Gillies 10 games

Islanders forward Trevor Gillies apparently did not learn his lesson. Gillies has been slapped with a suspension again by the NHL, this time getting a 10-game boot. This came in his first game back from a nine-game suspension.
Some people just never learn. Gillies was one of the key goons in brawl with Pittsburgh on Feb. 11, which sparked a round of debates about the NHL losing a grip on its control. Gillies did not play much last Wednesday night before being ejected for a cheap hit on Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck from behind in the second period.
The Isles would go on to win that game 4-1 but Gillies and his goofy mustache would lose as the disciplinary arm of the NHL announced Friday that Trevor would take 10 games off.
Clutterbuck, who has one of the funnest names to say since Jeff Beukeboom, was luckily not injured on the play but the fact that Gillies aimed his cheap shot at Cal’s head, and from behind, made the decision to suspend the goon rather easy.
“By targeting his opponent’s head, (four) shifts into his first game back from a suspension for a very similar action, Mr. Gillies has forfeited his privilege of playing in the league for 10 games,” NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell said in a statement. “While it is fortunate there was no injury on the play, there can be no justification for a player delivering a dangerous check to an opponent in this manner.” [via Yahoo! @TheReviewer, Gillies is a thug. He didn’t clock Clutterbuck in the back of the head with his hockey stick BY MISTAKE. He took a run at his victim, raised his stick and bashed him in the head.
I don’t think George Bernard Shaw had Trevor Gillies in mind when he wrote that quote. Shaw was more of a cricket fan, and I bet he wouldn’t have liked seeing somebody bash people with a cricket bat, either.

Now the Islanders won’t make the playoffs…oh, wait….

Why is it being glossed over that Gillies was protecting his own player who just got viciously boarded by Clutterbuck? (If you don’t believe me, check out the box score)

Poor Gillies, again he has been charged with a suspension by the NHL. Actually he is a good player but he don’t know how to control his angry.
