Kovalchuk Gets First Hat Trick As A Devil

It’s hard to believe but Ilya Kovalchuk has never pinned down a hat trick while with the New Jersey Devils. Teammate Zach Parise helped his friend nab the hat trick in the final seconds of the game Tuesday against Buffalo by giving up a sure goal for himself and instead passed it out to Kobalchuk for the goal.
[via Buffalo News] New Jersey’s $100 million workhorse burned Buffalo for his first hat trick as a Devil and got points on all four goals in the visitors’ 4-1 win Tuesday in First Niagara Center.
It’s nothing new of late. Kovalchuk has five goals and 15 points as the Devils have gone 5-1-1 in February. He came into the game averaging 24 minutes, 48 seconds of ice time and played 25:04 Tuesday.
