Rank Team Name W-L Comments

1

Blackhawks

24-2-3 Snapped a two game losing streak by scoring fifteen goals in three games. That will show the critics that you haven’t lost a step.

2

Ducks

21-3-4 Signing Corey Perry means that they will be contenders for a long time in the west.

3

Penguins

23-8-0 A recent ten game winning streak positions them as the best team in the east right now.

4

Bruins

19-6-3 It will be hard even for one of the best teams in the league to make it to the finals of their own conference let alone the Stanley Cup finals.

5

Canadiens

19-5-5 Could they be Canada’s best hope to win the Stanley Cup this year? How exciting would that be for hockey fans?

6

Senators

16-8-6 Consecutive victories over the Jets, Islanders and Sabres have the Senators back on track and looking to gain more ground as the season goes on.

7

Kings

17-10-2 Don’t look now, the Kings are primed to peak just as the season goes full throttle into the playoff stretch run.

8

Wild

16-10-2 Minnesota leads their division? That’s what steady play and a weak division will do for your team.

9

Blues

16-11-2 The city of St. Louis is feeling good right now. The Blues are in the thick of a playoff race and the Billikens of St. Louis are a number four seed in the NCAA tournament.

10

Red Wings

14-10-5 Detroit is doing just enough to hang on to their playoff spot. It will be fun to see how well they can do once they qualify for the postseason.

11

Hurricanes

15-12-2 Despite a recent stretch of solid play, they have come back to the pack. Will they even win their own division?

12

Devils

13-11-6 They desperately need Brodeur back. Additionally, they need to start scoring on a regular basis again.

13

Maple Leafs

15-12-2 The Leafs have lost five games in a row. Could they be sliding out of playoff contention again after a hot start?

14

Canucks

14-9-6 It isn’t a lock that Vancouver makes the playoffs unless they right the ship quickly. The current six seed is dangerously close to being booted out of the top eight.

15

Sharks

12-10-6 San Jose is barely hanging on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the west. They don’t have too much more room for error at this point in the regular season.

16

Jets

16-12-2 They are duplicating the run that they had last season. Let’s hope that their toughness on the road lets them get in to the playoffs this year.

17

Coyotes

13-13-4 A four game losing streak has the Coyotes going in the wrong direction. Hopefully, they can get it together soon.

18

Stars

13-12-3 You have to wonder if having a guy like Steve Ott back in their lineup would help during a playoff run.

19

Rangers

15-12-2 What is going on in New York right now? Despite getting healthier, the Rangers are still fighting for a playoff spot just a year removed from being the top seed in the east.

20

Islanders

13-13-3 The Islanders are probably overachieving right now. I’ll give them another week or two before they plummet back to Earth.

21

Blue Jackets

12-12-6 Are the people of Columbus really getting ready for a playoff run? A 7-0-3 run has certainly put them in the conversation.

22

Predators

11-13-6 A 2-7-1 slump has knocked Nashville out of the top eight in the west. The sad part is that their goaltending has been pretty good so far this year.

23

Oilers

11-11-6 Will the Oilers ever learn how to win? Maybe a veteran presence is needed to get these guys over the hump.

24

Lighting

13-15-1 They will need to work on their scoring depth for next season. They have nothing outside of their top line.

25

Flyers

13-16-1 After splitting a home-and-home series with the Devils last week, it may be time to stick a fork in the Flyers.

26

Sabres

11-15-4 It’s telling when Ryan Miller gives up five goals while the Capitals couldn’t score from close range on an empty net.

27

Capitals

12-16-1 A 5-3 win over the Sabres on Sunday means almost nothing. They can’t score on a regular basis and Ovechkin isn’t that good.

28

Flames

11-12-4 Whoever plays at home will win all the Flames-Avalanche games this season. Calgary is nearly as bad on the road.

29

Avalanche

10-14-4 If they were half as good on the road as they are at home, they could be a playoff team instead of a bottom-feeder.

30

Panthers

8-16-6 TJ Brennan could be the big scoring presence on defense that they desperately need. Of course, they need a lot at the moment.
